Summer Shandy

Mr. Downeastdoingstuff (aka Birdman) and I like to try new things. New things... as long as they don't have potential for bodily harm or curling my hair.

We especially like to try new drinks. (I don't want any comments about how alcohol can cause bodily harm....duh.)

Martinis have been our latest diversion. Especially the kind that are not really, officially classified as martinis, ie. chocolate martinis, appletinis, tinis with any appealing flavor.

The photo above is of a drink called a Shandy. Birdman has a blog, and a lady from Perth, Australia suggested this.

It's a mixture of two liquids served in a beer glass.

Can you guess what it might be??

check out her comment from my husbands blog....

You get a big glass (chilled for maximum effect), depending on how strong you like it, usually half/half, half beer of your choice, and half lemonade, also there's the classic English version of lager and lime, just add a dash of lime juice to the beer and a slice of lemon, takes away the ughy taste of the beer, sooooo refreshing and easy to drink. I'm not sure though Birdman, somehow I'm not getting a picture of you thinking much of this idea haha! See if Elenka will try it and let me know what she thinks.

Me thinks....Not bad. It's a rather odd mixture. You can taste both ingredients separately.

Strange. Hasn't curled my hair......yet.

It was a thirst-quencher on humid afternoon amid thunderstorms. You could taste a bit of beer and a bit of lemonade. But truth be told. if I'm in a bar, I'm going straight BEER!

When I was a child, my English grandparents made me Shandys, with lager and 7 Up...I am sure it was more 7 Up than beer, but I remember thinking how special and 'adult' I felt drinking one, lol.

Hi from 'down under' in Perth Elenka, I love that you tried out the shandy, and reading Teri's comment above brought back so many memories. We grew up in the middle of Africa and my Dad would sometimes let us have a shandy (very small part beer) when we were in our early teens. Your last post was absolutely hilarious, I mean what's that all about hey hahaha! I'm thinking it must be a riot in your house, between you and Birdman. So happy to have found your site, catch you soon,
Grace.

We have had something like that in Germany and a couple of other countries--called Radler in one place and Panache in another. Tasty! MM has tried to duplicate it here in Mayberry, but, well...not so much...yet!

It's probably better than the tomato juice/beer that people used to recommend years ago for hangovers? Maybe I have that wrong? I am out of the loop...I quit drinking 7 years ago this month...but my memory has not improved one bit! Would you ask Birdman a question for me? Does he remember Erebus from years ago? Where was it located in Portland and any photos of it? Doesn't seem to exist anywhere? I loved that place! I am still an "old" hippie.

Shandy was common when I was growing up in Scotland. Even kids drank it. Lager and lemonade. By lemonade though, it means lemon soda like 7UP or Sprite, not cloudy traditional lemonade made from squeezed lemons. Lemonade is the general term for those sodas. Before anyone get confused :)

I wish it sounded good, but, alas, not so much.

We had a bottled drink called Hard Lemonade or some such at the golf course, I think it was beer and lemonade. Pretty good!

Well it DOES look very refreshing, but goodness me, I was hoping one of the ingredients was champagne, (until I read it was part beer that is). Nice Hoosier glasses. ~Lili
