Lil pooch, God rest his soul.....

A woman I work with had me do this portrait for her son. The dog has recently passed away.
This is a pastel piece done from a photo they took on her son's wedding day. That is the bride's bouquet that the dog is munching on. Sweet.

I have often done portraits of people/pets that are no longer with us. The saddest one I did was of a young father and his 2 year old son sitting on his lap. The father was murdered in a drive by-shooting while at a McDonalds in California many years ago.
My mind raced into many scenerios behind that portrait the entire time I worked on it.

The second saddest was a portrait of a grown son that had committed suicide.

I hope my work brought some sense of peace to the people I did it for.

Oh, yes there is a peace felt...I am certain of that. Sadness, yes but remembrance of them in their lives and happy times then.

I remember when my first cat was dying of intestinal cancer, a friend came over and took photos of us together and I treasure those pictures. Often, with pets especially, the photos we have of them are ones we took ourselves so we are often not in the picture, so the ones of us together are especially sweet to me.

What a sweet remembrance, the wedding bouquet and the mischievious dog.

Thank you for stopping by my place and for your heartfelt comment about Obie. He is better today but I am thinking it won't last long. These bouts are getting more frequent. What a great remembrance these paintings must have been for these folks and painted so beautifully by you. I also read your anniversary post! Ahhh...the white mountains...who doesn't love it there! How romantic that he popped the question on the mountain! You two are super special and were meant to be together! Happy belated anniversary!

We never forget out pets, no matter how long they have been gone. What a wonderful gift, to be able to touch someone in pain, and make their life a little better
Elenka, I think your art is just remarkable. God has certainly blessed you in the artistic department. He forgot about me, oh well, we all have our own strengths. Beautiful piece! Hugs, Kathleen
