Using my Blackberry (s)...........

We are lucky enough to have a field FULL of a million blackberry plants, give or take.
I look forward to this every summer. I will stand out in the field and using both hands, gobble down blackberry after blackberry. They are soooooooooooooooo delicious!

BUT, in a couple of weeks they are gone. Why I haven't attempted to freeze them in the past, I don't know.

But this summer I did just that.

Here's how.....

Pick non-mushy berries. Wash them and then dry them. (I put them on a dish towel and wiggle the dish towel around and then gently roll them onto another dry dish towel  and further dry them.

Then I spread them out on a cookie sheet and pop into the freezer just as they are, overnight.
The next morning each and every berry is like a marble human zygote.
I immediately pop them into a zip lock bag (one of the greatest of inventions ever) and put them in the freezer. I have 4 bags frozen.

Made a  cobbler  cobbler  yesterday. (Note: If you try this recipe, the baking time is too long. I set the timer for 45 minutes and when I checked it at 37 minutes, it was already too long. I would watch it like a hawk after 30 minutes.....)

One of life's greatest joys. Berry, berry good.

Keep your exact location a secret or I will be at your door, bib under my chin, fork in hand, drooling, whining for blackberry cobbler!

Ohhhhh blackberry cobbler - the essence of summer in a pan.

We freeze gallons of them, using your method - though instead of zipper bags I have a seal-a-meal and use that - lovely berries all winter long - and some for jam making on cold winter days.

I eat the first few pickings right at the plants, like you do - but then I sober up and get busy freezing. LOL

When I first saw the title of your post, I thought maybe you were going to tie in the use of a Blackberry (phone) with your post. I've been picking, eating and freezing mine too! (the berries, not the phone) ~Lili

This is the kind of blackberry that you consume, not the kind of blackberry that consumes you. We picked tons of blueberries and froze them exactly the same way. Love that Vermont Light painting, yes I do!

chiggers are tiny tiny tiny little bugs that burrow into your skin and make you itch like crazy. you put clear nail polish on the bump to kill them. they usually strile on tight places like under your waistband or bra. no fun!

Wonderful pictures and I completely "get" that they are delicious. We have several patches next to the house. I picked some last year and froze them. I didn't make a cobbler, nor have I ever DATED a cobbler, but they were great in cereal. They are such a beautiful berry though...aren't they? Ok...so I had never heard of a human zygote?? You are so visual...oh yeah...you're an artist... that explains a lot. Boy...between your talented eye and Mr. DEDS's eye...is there an art studio at your place? Do either of you show your work anywhere?

Luv this; we have one sole blackberry bush and it looks as if all the berries will be ripe at once, so I am happy to have the freezing tips!
