Periodically I would do a watercolor of him to hang over the mantle in his bedroom. Sometimes he would know I was painting it, but most often I would just change the picture in the frame and when he would go up to his room, a new painting would be there. I wish I had done more of them....here are the ones I did.
"Now can I eat this blue donut??"
"Now can I eat this blue donut??"
(FYI... he has turned out to be a fabulous, creative artist. He just amazes me.!)
"Mom always tells me to stop and smell the roses."
(Ok, ok, we know it's a tulip.)
This painting is still on the wall in his room and the lighting isn't good and there are reflections in the glass, but you get the idea. Sunning on a beach in Haiti...part of a cruise.
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there. I hope you all have a wonderful day.
Nice series of images of your son. Happy Mother's Day.

What a treat for us on Mother's Day...to be able to see some of your wonderful work. Those paintings are real treasures.
ReplyDeleteHello and thanks for coming to my blog...Blueberryplains! Another fellow Mainer!! I am so excited and loved what you wrote in my blog about the Mad Apple Cafe! I have added you to my favorite blogs to watch. You are a wonderful artist!!! My cousin has a blog that is on my favorites list called Islandparadise. She is also an artist and lives on one of the islands in Casco Bay...check her out. She doesn't write much and you have to go back a ways to see her type of art. She has a shop over there where she sells her clay art and hand painted mussel shells. So glad I found you!
ReplyDeleteOh Elenka, I never get tired of looking at your work. EVER! You are supremely talented.
ReplyDeleteI hope to someday own an Elenka original. There, I said it.
What a beautiful way to look back at the love of your life.
And I'm so not surprised that your boy is a fabulous artist himself.
With genes like that!
oh elenka they are fantastic!! i once dated a fellow who came from a rich background and i always admired his parents home for their art, but my favourite pieces in their house were the sketches they had commissioned of their five children. you have done an outstanding job. thanks for the advice on my brooches, i was thinking $5 and then let her add her $1 or $2 on top of that. i cant wait to hand them over and get my first message from her that they have sold!!
ReplyDeletethanks for all of your gorgeous comments you are a great support and a kind soul.

p.s. that first photo of your son should win a prize!
Oh my. Your paintings are incredible and how great to have those of him growing up.
ReplyDeleteHi, I saw your post at Debbie's Blueberry Plains. I live in Maine too, way up here in Millinocket. I was struck by what your wrote, and had to respond. My mother's favorite saying was, "Everything happens for a reason". I have come to be a firm believer in this. I see you are too. Also, visiting you, I got to see your gorgeoua paintings of sites in Maine. I love them, especially Lobstering in Winter. Nice to meet you! Kathleen
ReplyDeleteElenka, I love all your artwork, but this has to be a favorite. How wonderful that you painted him througout the years. I'm sure you treasure each one of these as they have to bring back great memories.

Happy belated Mother's Day! I love seeing the baby picture of your son...along with the procession of portraits. What a great idea it was to do that and continue the tradition as he grew. Hope all is going well and hope to see you soon!
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful paintings! What a beautiful baby he was with those dimples!!! My son is 22 also!
ReplyDeleteYou are very talented and these paintings are for certain a treasure without a price. As he gets older, he will appreciate them, so will his wife and children! I know you are so pleased that you did these, and I feel privileged that you showed us!
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Joni
You know what's strange? That I just put up a post about the memories associated with a Fisher-Price Rock-a-stack like you painted for your first watercolor of him..
