Our school goes away to overnight camp every year. And, yes, the teachers come with them. Sending them two hours away all by themselves would not sit well with their parents. Well, most of the parents...
This is the cabin the teachers stay in. There are cabin counselors that stay with the kids at night. (Thank God!) We are right on the lake and quite far away from the kids bunks. They have NO idea where we stay.....and we like it that way!
This is the outside of the Dining Hall.
If you biggify this photo you can see some of the little cherubs up on the hill.
Another view of the lake from the Dining Hall. For some of the children, this is their first overnight. Some are homesick, but they all survive, and in the end are very happy they did.
They do workshops on relationships, bullying, decision making, adventure (ie. high and low ropes courses) and team building. Afternoons and evenings are spent doing fun things.
It's a wonderful program and our kids are very lucky to have this opportunity.
Wow. First class accommodations and a beautiful location. The "cherubs" are lucky to have this experience. If you get a chance, Elenka, check out my posting of 10-8 on my experience with camping. Maybe you'll get a chuckle.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful surroundings... and such a wonderful opportunity for the kids...
ReplyDeleteHave fun! Glad to know they don't know where y'all are. I'd hate to see what mayhem would come from that... LOL
Un lindo lugar para los niƱos.
ReplyDeleteWhaaaaaaaa! I want to go too! What a breakfast view! Hey, even I might try the most important meal of the day while looking at this view. hahaha.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great time for the kids and the teachers!
ReplyDeleteLucky, lucky kids! One of my fondest school memories was our week-away camp where I first learned about different kinds of trees and plants.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this - I needed a mental image of what I've heard about! And, with the nasty weather here, you're coming home at just the right time!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful birthday!!
xxoo
Wow did this bring back memories of when my kids used to go to camp. The buildings look so typically New England too. What a great program! I think it is extremely important to teach kids these things. Looks like you had a gorgeous view the whole time you were there. Now...hmmmm I am wondering what lake that might be??? There are so many to choose from. Nice camp. Bullying has become a horrifying thing in schools. Two of my friends have pulled their kids from local schools this year because of it. They will home school. Apparently some schools are not following through. My son was bullied every morning on the bus at around age 10. The school was not helping and told me NOT to contact the parents of the child doing it. After quite some time, I'd had enough and I contacted them and it stopped. They would not believe their kid would do such a thing and defended him. But...knowing that we called, stopped him. It must have been cool at night there huh?
ReplyDeleteOh I wanna go to camp too! But I don't want to get up too early. And I definitely don't want the "cherubs" to know where I am either. ~Lili
ReplyDeleteWe called it Outdoor School and it was one of my favorite things about teaching fifth grade. Our camp was not nearly as cool as yours, though. Budget cuts have eliminated camp from most districts in this area, a huge loss for kids who rarely get out into nature.
