Lately, I've been taking photographs as I'm driving my car. Photos of the road have been intriguing me, and this is my second 'road' picture I've done. This one is 12" x 17", not very big.
I've switched to pastels as I love how sky colors can be blended with chalk. Also, for the first time, I did this one on black pastel paper. Not sure if I like it. My first road composition is much larger and done on gray pastel paper. (see end of post)
Here is the original sketch, which is just random lines to separate the major areas in the picture. The sky has been started. You can see the hard pastels I used to start the picture. I then switch to softer sticks as I progress, which blend easier.
Finishing the sky and working on the trees.
Starting the snow on the side of the road. More tree work.
Here I've started putting the sky reflection colors into the road. My CAT added the kitty footprints in the road. (That's what I get for leaving the picture on the coffee table overnight.)
Thanks, Molly.
Here I'm working on getting the road colors right.
How fun...making the "ordinary" special. I love the shadows in the fall picture and it was interesting seeing the new picture unfold.
ReplyDeleteHow very creative Elenka! It turned out very well!

Those are just lovely. You have inspired me to get out my watercolors and paint something. So far I have all the supplies ready, arranged and just need to jump in. No kitty so I can't have the footprints.
ReplyDeleteI love them both, but the first one is my favourite - you're so talented ! It's odd for me to see cars driving on the opposite side of the road to how we drive here in Africa, though ;)
ReplyDeleteThey look great! I've had a great time catching up with a few previous posts - and differences in countries, seasons, driving, and the maple syrup processes - it sure is a big thing evidently, and now I know there is such a thing as a sugar shack that featured in a song when I was growing up.Thanks for your recent comment.
ReplyDeleteMore beautiful work from Elenka. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love the fall piece. Great colors in your photos. Thanks for having me.
ReplyDeleteHi Elenka,
ReplyDeleteI just love your art. The road series is wonderful. I love how you've captured all of the details. It makes me feel as if I'm on a road trip and I'm in the drivers seat.
Lovely
Have a happy day
Kris
Hi, thanks for visiting, I am glad the flowers brightened your day...
ReplyDeleteI love your pastel work, I did a pastel of my brothers cats, but I like pastel pencils more than blocks... my art teachers always laughed at me I think I was the only art student that didn't like getting dirty!lol
I had to take 2 looks at the last picture... I thought it was a photo...
I will definately pop back... and I must get back to doing some more art work.. I wish there was more time in the day!
take care
Alex
