Yesterday we had Mr. Stanley Steemer come and super steem [sic] our rugs in the family room and the hallway. Since those rugs have beens wicked scuzzy for a while and because our own Hoover rug shampooer uses only two tiny round toothbrushes to 'scrub' the rug at snail speed, we had to take drastic measures. Yes, Stanley Steemer is as drastic as we get. Whew.
Although, we did have Stanley Soot come several times to clean our chimney in the past. That was a hoot.
To prepare for our scuzz expungement, we had to remove stuff from the room and put it in our summer porch. Within 20 minutes the summer porch was jammed to the rafters with stuff.
We are not hoarders in our main house. (DO NOT look in the two attics.....ever....) The stuff we have is regular stuff. And the stuff was all in order as we had a family gathering 4 days before, no clutter to be seen. (Don't look in the attic.)
It made me realize that I can never move. I starting looking around to see what I would take with me when I retire and move to Tahiti.
It's going to be very expensive.
I need to start heaving things right now.
Even all those hundreds of Beanie Babies we got Baby Downeastdoingstuff, you know, for investment purposes.
And my trolls, too? Say it ain't so.....
Help.

I've been clearing "stuff" all summer. Boxes and bags have been hauled up from the basement...but it still looks the same down there. Does "stuff" multiply over night? Balisha
Before we scaled down I used to tell house guests that if a door is shut, it is shut for a reason! The area was being used to hide my stuff!
Yes, I can attest to the fact that moving is an eye opening experience. You never truly know the depth of "stuff" you have accumulated until you try to pack up and move. Then---you swear you'll never, ever do that again...Ha. Dream on....
Great blog!
When we moved 2 1/2 years ago we went from a 900 square foot house to one over twice that big - and we had to divest ourselves of ever so much stuff. Some furniture - things that wouldn't fit in the new house - things we didn't want anymore - we sold, donated and gave away truck loads of stuff - and yet the new house didn't seem big enough to hold what was left. Was that "stuff" generating new stuff while we weren't looking? Was someone putting their "stuff" in our moving truck? Was "stuff" appearing from thin air? I think all three - because we have "stuff" once again - though a nice big house to keep it in now.
I swear it all multiplies on its own when we're not looking. The troll is unbelievable cute! How could you part with him?
We have STUFF in our house; we have STUFF in our moho. Sigh. But Haley needed shortie sox yesterday, and so I shared from my stash. Life is good...
You have a lovely young lady grand niece who is a future interior designer or fashionista who would love to have that dress form in your attic along with mnay other objects of discard!! What a perfect little haven for her!!!
Florida Checks In!
Send Mr. DEDS up to the attic with a pencil and pad and have him write up all the memories that go with that wonderful stuff up there. Then publish the book and pay for a professional organizer to help de-stuff your life. Easy-peasy.
It's funny how one house task snowballs into the next until you're buried in an avalanche. Abandon the junk and move to Tahiti now.
Ok so do I now I have to one up you by going down into my cellar and taking photos of the "elegant junk" that we have!? Don't get me started on moving furniture from one room to another. I've been doing that since July. I'll be your attic is full of wonderful treasures. Tahiti huh? Have you already checked it out?
oh i want to see your stuff! especially the trolls and beanies!
ha ha ha
