"We're going to take these tubes out today."
"OK. Good"
"Now this is going to hurt somewhat...."
Nurse grabs a hold of the 1/2 diameter clear tube protruding out of patients stomach and using her best pull out methods, with one good yank, out it comes.
"&^$@$%*(((()(*&#@@@#$%!!!!!!!!!!!", replies the patient.
By the time I got to visit Mr. Downeastdoingstuff, he had already taken two walks, and had managed to eat more than yesterday. He seemed much more comfortable, although we all would probably be more comfortable if we didn't have a garden hose in our guts anymore.
Just looking at the way he was sitting in the lounge chair told me so much. Much more relaxed, leg crossed or one foot up on the bed and leaning back. I could tell he was feeling much better. There is still a tube in his neck, I think it's a port because it wasn't connected to any saline bags and he is still on oxygen and still wired to the temporary pacemaker. But all in all, a much better day.
They tell him that he might be coming home on Sunday!!
Guess I have to go out and load up his birdfeeders which I just noticed are empty. I've been coming home in the dark everyday and didn't notice that. It's 20 degrees out in I'm in my PJ's. That ain't happening for a while.......

Hi...wonderful news.So good, when those tubes come out.Have a restful day today...I'm sure you can rest a little more easily now. Just think...Sunday he may be home, isn't it amazing that a patient can come home after serious surgery...so soon? I'll be thinking of you both. Hugs...Balisha
Wonderful news! And at least you NOTICED the bird feeders were empty...that's got to account for something!
That tube in his neck, may be a swan ganz.....used to montior b/p during surgery. I had one once....they took it out after I had progressed some.
So happy to hear your husband is doing so great!!!! yeah! I bet you can't wait to get him home. Senind get well wishes.
Hugs, Kathleen
It might hurt somewhat...Those nurses can be sooo funny... NOT!
Glad to hear he's better. Sounds like he's making excellent progress. YAY!
Oh, I'm doing a happy little brattcat dance at the good news. Way to go, Birdman! Love the little details you notice, Elenka...like the way Birdman crosses his leg or positions his foot. The birds will be so happy with this news, too. I would imagine there will be moments of consternation along the road to recovery but your boy is doing splendidly and so are you!
Sounds like he is right on schedule - that drainage tube is so nice when it is GONE - though it makes one say awful words (and rightfully so)
The neck port usually comes out the last thing - it seems to be one of those "just in case we need this" thing.
Don had the temp pacemaker for about half his hospital stay - which was 10 days (which longer than most stay in the hospital)
Enjoy your jammies time - you'll be a busy one for the first few days home - but so much nicer than all those trips to the hospital.
glad things are going well...get some rest Elenka...you have much work to do when he gets home! take care y'all...
reading..reading...catching up. Goodness!
